چکیده

We have determined distances and Hubble ratios for galaxies at intermediate redshifts, cz ∼ 10, 000 to 35,000 km s−1 , by applying the CO-line TullyFisher relation to our CO (J = 1 − 0)-line observations using the Nobeyama 45-m telescope, and near-IR (NIR) photometry in the J and H bands using the 1.88-m telescope at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. By averaging the Hubble ratios from J-band result, we obtain a Hubble constant of H0 = 60 ± 10 km s−1Mpc−1 . We argue that the CO line-NIR TFR can be a complimentary method to the other methods for measuring distances of galaxies at intermediate and high redshifts.

Distance Measurement of Galaxies to Redshift of 0.1 Using the Co-line Tully-fisher Relation

We report on the rst results of a long-term project to derive distances of galaxies at cosmological distances by applying the CO-line width-luminosity relation. We have obtained deep CO-line observations of galaxies at redshifts up to cz 29; 000 km s 1 using the Nobeyama 45-m mm-wave Telescope, and some supplementary data were obtained by using the IRAM 30-m telescope. We have detected the CO l...

Galaxy–galaxy Lensing in the Hubble Deep Field: the Halo Tully-fisher Relation at Intermediate Redshift

A tangential distortion of background source galaxies around foreground lens galaxies in the Hubble Deep Field is detected at the 99.3% confidence level. An important element of our analysis is the use of photometric redshifts to determine distances of lens and source galaxies and rest-frame B-band luminosities of the lens galaxies. The lens galaxy halos obey a Tully–Fisher relation between hal...

The Redshift Evolution of the Tully-Fisher Relation as a Test of Modified Gravity

The redshift evolution of the Tully-Fisher Relation probes gravitational dynamics that must be consistent with any modified gravity theory seeking to explain the galactic rotation curves without the need for dark matter. Within the context of non-relativistic Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND), the characteristic acceleration scale of the theory appears to be related to the current value of eit...

The ATLAS project – V. The CO Tully-Fisher relation of early-type galaxies

We demonstrate here using both single-dish and interferometric observations that CO molecules are an excellent kinematic tracer, even in high-mass galaxies, allowing us to investigate for the first time the CO Tully-Fisher relation of early-type galaxies. We compare the Tully-Fisher relations produced using both single-dish and interferometric data and various inclination estimation methods, an...

The Co Tully-fisher Relation and Implications for the Host Galaxies of High-redshift Quasars

The integrated line width derived from CO spectroscopy provides a powerful tool to study the internal kinematics of extragalactic objects, including quasars at high redshift, provided that the observed line width can be properly translated to more conventionally used kinematical parameters of galaxies. We show, through construction of a Ks-band CO Tully-Fisher relation for nearby galaxies spann...
